Pride in Place: A Positive Step Forward for Woodchurch
Woodchurch is entering an exciting new chapter with the launch of the Pride in Place initiative, a programme designed to strengthen communities by investing £20million over 10 years, in local priorities, partnerships, and people.
Pride in Place offers a real opportunity to create lasting, positive change by working closely with community organisations and local residents to shape services and opportunities that truly reflect what matters most to Woodchurch. Central to the initiative is listening — hearing directly from local people about their experiences, needs, and aspirations for the area.
Early conversations have highlighted a strong desire for improved services, stronger community connections, and greater community facilities and opportunities for young people. These insights are already helping to guide a collaborative approach that puts local voices at the heart of decision-making.
As the PCN for Woodchurch (with member practices, Heatherlands Medical Centre and Woodchurch Medical Centre), we are proud to support this work by collaborating with grassroots community organisations and bringing together expertise from across our wider PCN team and neighbourhood partners. This includes support from our health and wellbeing coaches, social prescribers, and organisations who can offer practical help, advice, and information on issues such as fuel poverty, social isolation, mental wellbeing and family matters, whilst supporting better access to local services.
We have also welcomed a positive and constructive conversation with Matthew Patrick MP’s office, reinforcing a shared commitment to ensuring Pride in Place delivers meaningful and sustainable benefits for Woodchurch.
We would strongly encourage anyone living in Woodchurch who is passionate about making a difference to consider engaging with the initiative and applying for the advertised role of Chair for Woodchurch Pride in Place. This is a unique opportunity to help shape the future of the community and ensure local voices continue to lead the way.
Dr Mark Fraser, Clinical Director of Healthier Neighbourhoods PCN, commented: “Woodchurch is a community with energy, creativity, and no shortage of ideas or vision for its own future. We look forward to continuing to support this work, standing alongside residents and partners to help turn their ambition into action. Together, Pride in Place represents not just investment, but belief in what Woodchurch can achieve."
