World Cancer Day: Supporting Our Community Through Every Step of the Cancer Journey

Today, on World Cancer Day, we join communities across the world in raising awareness, showing solidarity, and reaffirming our commitment to improving cancer outcomes and experiences for everyone affected by cancer.

Over recent years, cancer services across the UK have continued to improve, with advances in early diagnosis, treatment options, personalised care, and long-term support. There is also a growing recognition that living with and beyond cancer requires more than clinical treatment alone — it requires holistic, coordinated, and compassionate support close to home.

At Healthier Neighbourhoods PCN, we are proud to play our part in this journey by offering tailored cancer support services within our neighbourhood.

Cancer Care Coordinator Support

Our Cancer Care Coordinator is here to support patients and their families from diagnosis onwards. They offer:

  • Regular support phone calls
  • Face-to-face appointments where needed
  • Help navigating services, appointments, and referrals
  • Emotional support and signposting to trusted local and national organisations

This service is designed to ensure no one feels alone or unsure about where to turn.

Cancer Wellbeing Event Series

We also deliver a Cancer Wellbeing Event Series, (currently running every Wednesday at Heatherlands Medical Centre 11am-12noon) bringing together some of the best cancer support organisations to support you through every stage of your journey. These events focus on:

  • Physical and emotional wellbeing
  • Living well during and after cancer treatment
  • Connecting with expert organisations and peer support
  • Accessing practical advice, resources, and engaging with local services

All events are delivered locally, making support accessible within our community.

Our Commitment

On World Cancer Day, we want our patients and carers to know that support is available, locally and compassionately. Whether you are newly diagnosed, undergoing treatment, living with cancer, or supporting a loved one, our PCN is here to walk alongside you.

If you would like to find out more about our cancer support services or upcoming wellbeing events, please speak to your GP practice and ask them to refer you to our Cancer Care Coordinator.

Together, we continue to work towards better care, better experiences, and better outcomes for our community.
